And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week, and for half of the week he shall put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator. (Daniel 9:27, ESV)
This verse from the 70 Weeks Prophecy found in Daniel 9 is the foundation of nearly all of our opinions about what will happen prior to the return of Jesus. Current thought is that this verse reflects a coming 7 year “Tribulation,” – or 70th Week of Daniel – a coming Antichrist, and a peace treaty he makes with Israel.
But what if we’ve been wrong? What if our opinions are based more on tradition and not sound biblical exegesis? What if there are aspects “hidden” in the prophecy that nearly everyone has missed?
In 70 Times 7 Nelson takes us back to the bedrock of this prophecy, back to the day Daniel prayed and the angel Gabriel appeared to him. Nelson will walk you through Daniel’s prayer and how it might be related to his night in the lion’s den, the eventual restoration of the temple, and the first and second coming of Messiah the Prince.
Nelson then identifies who he believes is the true “prince who is to come” and clarifies the meaning of the “covenant with the many.” If Nelson is correct, this new interpretation has incredible implications for the church and our role prior to and during the Tribulation.
In his book, Nelson uses scripture to convincingly demonstrate that:
The Jewish shabuim – the 7-year cycles or “weeks” prescribed by God in the prophecy – are integral to God’s plans, including the reason for the timing of the rapture (pretrib., post-trib., or prewrath).
Jesus referred to this prophecy at least a half-dozen times in the Gospels, and although most scholars haven’t properly identified these references (they are “hidden”), they clearly define the meaning of the prophecy.
The rest of the Old Testament and the Epistles are silent on this prophecy. Nelson speculates on why this is true.
The chronology of Persian kings in the Old Testament are not what our current secular history expects; and the Old Testament helps provide confirmation of the biblical timing of Daniel’s prophecy.
The Antichrist will be of Middle Eastern descent.
Although many believers anticipate that the 70th Week will begin with a peace treaty between Israel and the Antichrist, another event specifically foretold by Jesus will be the SIGN of the “beginning of the end.”
Believers during the 70th Week will be blessed by the power of the Holy Spirit in ways never before imagined as they face persecution for the sake of Jesus Christ.
70 Times 7 is a must-read for all believers who long to understand Daniel’s prophecy and have a sincere desire to prepare for the final “week.”
