Jerusalem – What Will Happen Next?

The USA’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel stirred up a hornet’s nest of outrage. So the question is: Jerusalem – What will happen next?

This is the second article in this short series. If you did not read the previous article “Christian Response to the Jerusalem Announcement,” click and read it first as it provides a lot of background information.

The Nations Rage

The rhetoric from all portions of the globe has been swift and quite over-the-top. The USA’s top “allies” Britain, France, Canada, Sweden, Japan, and Germany all condemned Trump’s announcement. Unbelievably, a UN Security Counsel session was also held to denounce the USA’s action with all 14 other representative nations rebuking the USA’s move.

Closer to the scene of the action, protests have erupted in the streets as violent Palestinians and Israeli police have clashed for the past several days. And the leaders of the Islamic opposition to Israel have made threats :

The Palestine Liberation Organization’s secretary-general Saeb Erekat said the Palestinian leadership was considering “all options” in response to the USA’s announcement.

Hamas’s leader Ismail Haniya said the USA’s recognition of Jerusalem was a “war declaration against Palestinians”, and called for a new Intifada (as if one hasn’t already been ongoing!)

In North Carolina (my home state), we would say ‘Them’s fightin’ words.’

Why the Outrage?

The first part of Zechariah’s prophecy about Jerusalem is being fulfilled before our eyes:

Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around. (Zech. 12:2)

The nations are certainly becoming “drunk” and irrational about Jerusalem. Although the nations have been opposed to Israel for some time, the USA’s declaration has forced them to “show their hand.” And the entire world including the Vatican has come out against Israel.

Why do they oppose Jerusalem as Israel’s capital? Jerusalem is and has been the declared capital of Israel since 1980. Yet only the USA and the Czech Republic now acknowledge it. And it is just as obvious that from Israel’s point of view any peace plan will need to include Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in a two-state solution.

The answer to why this declaration is so inflammatory should be obvious to all. The Islamic position is that Jerusalem should not be the capital of Israel in a two-state solution. And they think they can enforce their will to make this happen. They desire a return to pre-1967 borders. Trump’s acknowledging Jerusalem as the capital essentially is a declaration that the USA believes this Islamic position is unreasonable and off the table.

The the universal condemnation of the USA’s move is a clear demonstration that the rest of the world agrees with the Islamic position-or believes agreeing with the Islamists is the politically expedient thing to do. It appears that the rest of the world wants to divide the land AND to return Israel to pre-1967 borders. In their minds they see this as the “simple” solution. Additionally, do anti-God and anti-Semitic hatreds fuel some of that desire? Most likely they do as well.

Israel and the United States are now isolated on the world stage.

Jerusalem – What Will Happen Next?

These last sections discussed the secular and political view of the situation. What does scripture tell us about what happens next?

Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around; and when the siege is against Jerusalem, it will also be against Judah. It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it. (Zech. 12:2-3)

Scripture tells us that a siege will be necessary for the Islamic forces to take Jerusalem. Israel will not negotiate it away, it will have to be taken by force.

Additionally, the NASB says “all the nations of the earth” will be gathered against it. The Hebrew word here for “earth” is “errets” or land. It is most likely the entire earth, although this word can mean just the land around Israel (the Middle East). Will Trump’s edict be overruled by a subsequent USA President? And will the USA join the rest of the nations in “coming against” Israel’s position on Jerusalem so that “all” the nations are gathered against Israel? None of us know that for sure, but the odds are very high that the USA will abandon Israel in the future, and Israel will be left alone on the international arena.

How will the “all” the nations be gathered against Israel?

The BIble isn’t clear. It certainly may be by UN Declaration. Later all the nations may be involved in a siege by economic sanctions, and it may be that a UN “peace-keeping” force is actually on the ground in a military siege. Or of course, the nations may be involved by all three means.

What are the Likely order of events?

We will now enter the section of this blog article that is speculation. Based on what the Bible tells us about the end times, the rest of the blog is devoted to what I “think” might happen.

As long as Trump is President, it seems unlikely that the UN or the Islamic factions will take “dramatic” action against Israel. However, once he is no longer President, they might strike and strike quickly. It’s likely that a new “globalist” leader of the USA will no longer protect Israel. Assuming Trump is a one-term president,  in January, 2021 a new President could begin to align the USA with the rest of the world.

The Islamic nations round-about Israel know this as well and will probably do everything in their power to influence the results of the 2020 election. It is also likely that they will position themselves for action in 2021 by attempting to weaken the USA as much as possible in the next 3 years. Perhaps they will use a combination of civil unrest and economic sabotage.

Then when they have secured the USA into their “camp,” the UN could easily undertake severe economic sanctions against Israel based on fabricated human rights violations; perhaps a “blockade” of all  imports and exports. Israel’s main imports are oil, grains, raw materials, and military equipment. A complete blockade of Israel could bring the nation to its knees in months.

Enter a “Hero,” (or Anti-Hero)

Perhaps it is at that point that the Antichrist enters the picture. Perhaps he offers a two state solution and allows two “sweeteners” to the deal: splitting Jerusalem into East Jerusalem and West Jerusalem so Israel could have its capital there, and also allowing Israel to rebuild the Temple on the Temple Mount next to the Dome of the Rock.

This scenario seems all too plausible.

And then of course, after a short time of “false peace,” fabricated reasons that Israel broke the peace will be created and a military invasion will begin.

For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, the houses plundered, the women ravished and half of the city exiled. (Zech. 14:2)

What Should Christians Be Doing?

We should pray at all times. We should pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and we should pray for God’s Will to be done. You see, the scenario I outlined could be completely false or it could be similar to God’s Will for Israel.  At some point, God will permit a siege to take place, Israel will enter into the covenant with the many, and then the 70th Week of Daniel will begin.  The only question is whether or not these events will begin in the next 4 to 5 years.

As Christians, we are ambassadors of the coming Kingdom of Israel. Jesus will rule the nations with a rod of iron from that same Jerusalem we have been discussing. And all of our allegiance and efforts should be focused on that coming Kingdom. Our efforts should not be directed to trying to prevent Israel from entering that time of trial. It is God’s Will that it eventually enter it, and the timing is in His hands as well.

No, our efforts need to be directed at working to bring as many into the coming Kingdom as possible, gentile and Jew, possibly especially the Jews. Was Trump elected to give us a brief window of time to do as much as we can to advance the Kingdom before the window is slammed shut?

If we have 3 1/2 years before a new globalist President of the USA potentially makes the gospel illegal and aligns with the Islamic factions, what will you do? What are the most impactful things that you can undertake in the next short period of time?

We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. (John 9:4)

So if you pray, pray for that. Pray for wisdom to know what to do for the Kingdom and for the strength to accomplish it.

  1. While the American embassy is being built, Israeli scholars will consider what the scholar Ernest L. Martin proved in his 2000 book “The Temples That Jerusalem Forgot,” confirmed by Robert Cornuke in his 2014 book “Temple,” that the only place in Jerusalem that Temples have been built has been over the Gihon Spring, south of the so-called Temple Mount.

Josephus reported that the entire city of Jerusalem, including the Temple, was so completely demolished that visitors to the area would not see evidence that a city has ever been there. The only stones left on top of another were the ten thousand stones making up the walls of the Roman fort Antonia, which stones still surround the so-called the Temple Mount.

After knowing the true location of Jerusalem’s Temples, Israeli scholars will realize that it is now possible for a new Temple to be peacefully built without need for Islamic control of the so-called Temple Mount to be relinquished.

Israeli scholars will also consider what the scholar Graham Hancock reported in his 1992 book “The Sign and the Seal: The Quest for the Lost Ark of the Covenant,” confirmed by Robert Cornuke in his 2017 book “Search for the Ark of the Covenant,” that the Ark now resides in the Chapel of the Tablet in Axum, Ethiopia.

The Ark will not be returned to the Temple until Antichrist is dead and Christ has returned (Isaiah 18:7 with Zephaniah 3:10). The Ark will never again be sprinkled with blood, because its Mercy Seat will be the throne of Christ.

  2. What happens next?

Kislev, 2019 The Ark is found east of the Jordan
Sivan, 2020 The Ark returns to Israel
Tishri 1, 2020 Trump gives the Temple Mount to Israel

Then the nations will rage bigtime. All this is the catalyst for the Psalm 83/Zechariah 12 war of annihilation. This war will involve supernatural intervention by God and both sides will know it. This war takes place around 2023 I am guessing. (Don’t yet know the exact date)

Zechariah 12:6 … they shall devour all the surrounding peoples on the right hand and on the left, but Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place—Jerusalem.

Finally, after thousands of years, there will “Peace and Safety” in Jerusalem. That might ring a bell.

Zephaniah 1:13 Therefore their goods shall become booty, And their houses a desolation; They shall build houses, but not inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards, but not drink their wine.

  3. “Seventy sevens are decreed…..” Daniel 9:24. If this prophecy did not come true (2,000+ year gap), how is Daniel not considered a false prophet ?? Please use scripture to show how a failed prophecy is still valid.

    1. If this were true weed wacker then all the prophets are false prophets. For instance Isaiah 9:7. Jesus still hasn’t sat on the throne of David, it is yet future. That’s just the way that God has had prophecy written.

I am also not completely sure that there wasn’t a “gap” in the 70 Weeks between the first 7 and the 62. I plan to examine this is detail when I have time.

But why the problem with this? The prophecy says 70 weeks not 70 consecutive weeks. It is clearly broken into 3 segments.

      1. Yes, exactly. I would add something here that you probably wont agree with, yet. For now, this will appear to be coming out of left field. In time, you will understand it I believe. The 70 weeks are not related to the 62, 1, and 7 weeks. The 62, 1, and 7 weeks are indeed weeks of years. There are three comings of Messiah in Daniel 9.

The 70 weeks are a literal 490 days of the siege of Jerusalem by the AC. Ezekiel 4 explains this, although it has been mistakenly passed down as 390 days in the modern version, imo. There is a day of visitation of Jesus well after the rapture and before His 7th trumpet coming to the Mount of Olives. This is the day of visitation that Jesus prophesied about at the end of Matt 23. This only makes sense after figuring out the 2300 days in Daniel 8. The example dates are as follows.

Av 17, 2064 – Siege of Jerusalem begins, start 490 days
Kislev 4, 2065 – Visitation of Jesus, Zechariah 7 gives us this appointed time. When they reject Him, they are given over for their transgression and the 2300 days begins.
        Nisan 1, 2072 – Ezekiel’s Temple is cleansed. Ezekiel 45:18

We know the appointed time that the Temple is cleansed from Ezekiel 45:18. Then we just have to count back 2300 days and in many years, depending on leap cycle, we fall exactly on Kislev 4 that Zechariah says is the day God gives them up for not listening. Not a coincidence. Therefore, all we have to do is subtract another 490 days to find the exact date the siege of Jerusalem begins.

I understand this may be met with resistance. But, this is exactly what God explained to me not that long ago. If you indeed investigate, you will see there is coming of the Lord below that doesn’t fit the rapture, or the return to the Mount of Olives. This is a third coming in between the other two, the day of visitation. Test me in this.

Malachi 3:1 …. And the Lord, whom you seek, Will suddenly come to His temple

        1. The LXX also has 390 days in Ezek 4 Harvos, saying this is incorrect means that the error occurred sometime prior to 200 BC, very unlikely.

I a working on an understanding, a simple understanding of the 70 Weeks’ historic fulfillment that will surprise everyone. However, I am open to a future second fulfillment. However, the dates given here I don’t agree with.

          1. Is it the years, or the month/day dates that you disagree with?

Also, Tishri 1, 2020 is the going forth of the decree to restore the temple mount to the Jews. Thus answering Daniel’s prayer and beginning the 7 sevens. IF I am right about this, the dates above are also precise.

62 sevens from the order to rebuild Jerusalem began in Nisan in the 25th year of Artaxerxes, 441 BC. They end with the Nisan 1, 7 BC birth of Jesus. The 1 seven was 22-29 AD, the ministry of Jesus and disciples when GOD’S sacrifice was lifted up, NOT taken away. See LXX in Greek. It is the same word Jesus used twice we He referred to being lifted up on the pole. Then an abomination would remain atop the temple mount until the end of time, which has been the case for 1900 years. The 7 sevens are what remains. As Daniel says in the LXX, “and then shall return.”

I understand that you cannot accept this. That is ok. I’m not seeking agreement or trying to argue. I simply tell you so that when Tishri 1, 2020 comes to pass, all these things I have told you are true. Jubilees, which was given to Moses by an angel, says it contains the whole history from creation until the eternal kingdom in periods of Jubilees. I have that whole calendar figured out. I will show what the Lord explained to me after Tishri 1, 2020.

          2. I am not ready to publish my new revelation of the 70 Weeks, but I think all previous opinions of which “decree” started the time table are not accurate IMO, so no, I disagree with 441 BC. I strongly disagree with the 70th Week starting in 22 AD as well. We should postpone this discussion until I complete my research. But suffice it to say, I discovered something that will take most by complete surprise I believe.

  4. Your right, Nelson, the world would have not blinked an eye because the world knew Clinton back then would not be serious about it and the deferment on 6 month intervals was Clinton’s back door for it not to happen. Every POTUS since then took cover under that deferment and never made any public announcement about it being otherwise. Enter the current President, time will tell whether this was attempting to score political points causing unnecessary Muslim violence or he really will cause the embassy to move. If Trump is NOT re-elected in 2020 and a democrat takes the office, the process will be immediately reversed. Whether the embassy officially moves by 2020 remains to be seen. I’m watching and so are you.

    1. Julie, Everyone makes a big deal about the embassy. Personally I think the recognition of Jerusalem is a bigger deal, a much bigger deal. But even that really means NOTHING. So what if the USA recognizes what is already a reality on the ground? What was truly important is the immediate outcry by the world. WHY did this outcry happen. Frankly why does Japan or Sweden care? Because it shows the “heart” position of these nations – against the Almighty and his Son. Twenty years ago there wouldn’t have been this outcry, not because of Clinton, but the nations weren’t aligned against Israel at the time. They are now.

  5. Nelson: To put the matter of the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel by the US and the movement of the US Embassy to Jerusalem, the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 was passed by Congress on October 23, 1995 and became law on November 8, 1995 apparently without President Clinton’s signature. This law had been deferred in its implementation until now.

    Source: Wilkipedia.

I have sense here that we are on a trajectory for moving the Embassy that will that will not be abated.

    1. Thanks Joseph. Yes, I think that the embassy will move. What alarms me, however, is the feedback from the rest of the world. 20 years ago this would not have been the case. The world is uniting against Israel. Of all the “end time” signs, this may be the greatest yet.
