Do Not Be Terrified

Last night a terrorist murdered dozens of innocent teenagers at a pop concert. How can one not be terrified? Yet that is Jesus’s command, “Do not be terrified.”

Do Not Be Terrified

The world is fast becoming a battlefield.  Islamic terrorists are savagely killing and maiming the innocent. Leftist terrorists are striking our universities to prevent free speech. Media terrorists are spewing fake news stories at an almost hourly rate. And in my opinion these are just the early ripples of a Tsunami of terror that is coming. How should someone deal with this rising tide of terror?

Is this taking Jesus by surprise? Of course not. In fact he used this very word “terror” when advising his followers  how they should respond to events just prior to his return. He said, “do not be terrified.”

When you hear of wars and disturbances (chaos, riots, revolutions, etc.), do not be terrified; for these things must take place first, but the end does not follow immediately. (Luke 21:9)

Jesus’s disciples asked Jesus what would be the sign of his return. As our Lord began his response, he gave us two commands, “Do not be misled” and “Do not be terrified.” Why? Because he expects events on the earth to be capable of misleading us and terrifying us.

Why Not?

These are terrifying times. Why shouldn’t a person be terrified? Jesus gave us the answer:

For these things must take place first. (Luke 21:9)

Jesus said don’t be terrified because these things MUST take place before he returns. These events are signs that Jesus and his eternal Kingdom on earth are close at hand! Plus this statement re-enforces the idea that Jesus has the world under his control. He is permitting these events because they MUST take place first so that all that is written will be fulfilled.

What Should We Do?

A terrified Christian will hide and withdraw. That is exactly what the evil one desires. It is my opinion that we are fast approaching the day when Satan will unleash “his man,” the Man of Sin upon the world to deceive it into worshiping everything that is not God. A church that hides will allow this evil man unfettered access to the souls of the unsaved.

So despite what we “see” happening, and what we see will only get exponentially worse, we are to engage the culture. God’s elect will testify.  The word “testimony” appears 9 times in Revelation! It is our purpose and Satan knows it:

And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. (Rev. 12:11)

It is also our weapon; it is how we overcome Satan.

So when we see terrifying things, our instinctive response needs to be “testimony” not to hide in fear. “They did not love their life even when faced with death.”

The times ahead will be different than what we have experienced before. We need to begin to practice now to prepare our minds for them; to renew our minds to accomplish Jesus’s purposes for us. And that purpose is “testimony.”

  1. Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great (Europe) She has become a lair of demons (infidel immigrants ). She is a haunt for every unclean spirit (infidels), a hideout for every unclean bird (muslim), and a hold for every detestable beast (islam).

EU is Mystery (futuristic union) Babylon harlot (Europe) her doom in one hour aka 41.6 years. EU started at 2000 so if something happen at 2041/42 don’t be surprised. Although is debatable because when started with 15 members now 28 but most of them joined 2007(she reached full shape) as another option 2007+41.6=2049.

  2. Thank you Nelson. I live in the UK and your words of encouragement about being citizens of the Kingdom of the King are true reminders to us all and aligns us one with another with God and against the rulers, the principalities and powers of the other kingdom.

  3. Good words of encouragement about the reality of the times we live in Nelson. I’ve been finding myself praying for God to prepare me for the events that lay ahead. Hebrews 10:36-39 also helps me: You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. 37 For, “In just a little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay.” 38 And, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” 39 But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.

    1. Very appropriate passage, Tom. I see it with a new perspective now. Thanks for sharing that. It would be good to commit this to memory.

  4. Thank you for that word of encouragement Nelson .
I actually live in Birmngham UK, and I can affirm that indeed like the left in America , the left here have taken over our unis.

There was an attempt to take over our school’s (Trogen horse) and till this day our left wing ruling council deny it’s happening, even though the leader had to resign, after publicly apologising for looking the other way for fear of being called an islamaphopia.

To be honest the most scary thing is the state of the churches, (the king isn’t wearing any clothes) and it shows. In our city centre on any given day you will hear the sound of the koran over the loud speaker, and see free korans being given out.

I know we’re not, but you do feel sort of helpless, as churches seem to be more interested in meeting for cosy chats and coffee.

You don’t have to publish this. Thank you for your word of encouragement.

    1. Remember, these are the things that must take place. We are not citizens of the UK or the USA or the EU or Australia. We are citizens of the Kingdom and our King has planned an invasion force landing to take over those nation states! We are his ambassadors. Try and view life through that lens. It changes everything.
