Modern Tower of Babel

Today many New Yorkers celebrated as One World Trade Center opened for business.  The new 1776 foot (symbolism intended) tower was built on the site of the former Twin Towers destroyed by Islamic terrorists on 9/11.   Many in this nation were relieved to finally have the scar of those attacks “rebuilt” and a chapter in New York’s history closed.

To me however, there is an eerie similarity between the new tallest building in the USA and an ancient tower.  These similarities make me think of it as a Modern Tower of Babel.

First, consider the new name given to the tower: One World Trade Center!  This name glorifies a world where all people are one and brings verses from Genesis to mind:

“Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”  The Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.  The Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them. (Gen. 11: 4-7 NASB)

When the One World tower was first conceived it was originally going to be called the Freedom Tower.  In 2009 the name was changed by the owners.  They said the new name would be “easier for people to identify with.”  This is a highly bizarre statement.  “Freedom” is an easy concept for Americans to identify with.  It spoke of a nation not willing to be overcome by terror.  Changing the name to “one world” was probably more a political statement of the times (2009) implying a new era of world peace.  This was in keeping with the naive expectations at the beginning of the Obama presidency.   Many at that time felt we had won the War on Terror.  Obviously they were wrong.

“One world” of course, also implies a one world government which is the hope of many utopians and the fear of many Christians.  The Antichrist’s revolt against God was foreshadowed by the revolt of Nimrod that included the building of  the Tower of Babel.  The original Tower of Babel was built shortly after Noah’s Flood.  Although the Bible doesn’t explicitly say so, many believe the purpose of the tower included protection from another flood.  God, of course, had promised to never destroy the world again with water.  Building a tower to protect oneself from an event God promised would never happen obviously showed a lack of faith in the promises of God.

Rabbi Jonathan Cahn discusses similar lack of faith in God’s protection in his New York Times best seller The Harbinger.  Rabbi Cahn shows in amazing detail the similarities in the warnings God gave ancient Israel to those possibly being given to the USA.  The book details how Israel attempted to oppose their foes with self-reliance rather than faith.

The “Modern Tower of Babel” has many safety features to make it more resistant to Islamic terrorists.  All vehicles entering the garage and every person entering the building will be screened.  The air handling system is even equipped with a filter in case of a biologic attack.  It is truly the best that man can do on his own.

Unfortuanately that is not enough.  Where are the prayers?  Where is the ceremony dedicating the building to God.  Saddly these most critical safety features are missing!   Does a world in rebellion to God actually think it can protect itself?

The USA has built a tower that “reaches into heaven.”  What the future holds for this monument to human endeavor in disrespect to God remains to be seen.   When Nimrod attempted to build his tower, God confused the languages of earth and scattered the people.  What God will do in reaction to this Modern Tower of Babel is unclear, but today is not a day that I celebrate.

Many of the signs Rabbi Cahn considers for the USA occur at or around Ground Zero.  This latest foray by the USA is also on that “sacred ground.”  Might it be another “harbinger?”

In regard to the ancient kingdom of Israel which Rabbi Cahn says foreshadows the USA, God said this through his prophet Isaiah:

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, But they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the Lord! (Isa. 31: 1 NASB)

Unfortunately, Israel’s reliance on Egypt was mistaken.  The Assyrians entered the land, destroyed their cities and took them into captivity.  We are trusting in the modern equivalent of chariots and horses.  I am interested to see what ramifications the opening of this tower has on America.

  1. In September 2016 a gateway arch to Baal was erected in NYC. I dont recall its exact location but many fear this is just another proof our country has lost its moorings and judgment can’t be far off.
Nelson, I’ve ordered both your books and Davidsons also, but havent begun reading them yet. Trying to read all your site and it’s mammoth.
About the harlot, I used to believe/want to believe its Saudi Arabia, but its probably Jerusalem. But not today’s Jerusalem. Revelation describes her after she’s bought the lie of antichrist and his kingdom. We can’t fathom that happening to our Jewish brothers. For God’s judgment to be just in destroying her, she must have been connected to Him originally, Saudi never was, and her infidelity must include taking up with a foreign lover, the AC. I do see Islam and the caliphate and Saudi Arabia as the Beast Kingdom and they mystery is how/why Jerusalem/Israel falls under the spell of Islam. they have been avowed enemies since Ishmael and Issac, Jacob and Esau.

    1. Thanks Linda. If you notice, Revelation Deciphered doesn’t take a stand on the identity of the Harlot. I used to believe it was Saudi Arabia. Now I’m not so sure. I’ve read Chris White’s strong position that its Jerusalem. I am waiting for Joel Richardson’s new book on Mystery Babylon to compare the two and see which makes the most sense.

  2. In order to be the mother of harlots and abominations (which denote spiritual idolatry), she would have to be the source from which her daughter harlots were born. Babylon [Babel] was founded in rebellion against God.

America is too young to be a Mother. Jews and Christians that support Israel puts us on Islam radar. Islam was built on murdering Jews and Christians in the Arabian Peninsula and it hasn’t stop.

When the Twin Towers fell the Middle East was far from a fulfillment of…

Revelation 18:19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

Seeing how “casting dust on their heads” is a Middle Eastern custom, you’ll only get that kind of reaction if Mecca, Medina, Jerusalem or all three cities fell. I’m sure if New York City fell it would be like party time in the Middle East. The Red Sea is the largest shipping lane in the world. Muslims from all over the world take a pilgrimage to Mecca every year.

Will America be destroyed due to sin? I believe so.

    1. Randy, I believe you mistake the meaning of “mother of harlots.” This is a middle-eastern phrase meaning the biggest of all harlots not the progenitor. That begin said, I personally believe it to be Saudi Arabia/Mecca. Although Jerusalem is possible. I am not yet 100% decided.

  3. Very poignant reminder of the continued rebellion against ABBA FATHER. Like you we who are the called and chosen will have to wait and see.
